A couple from Westport were killed in a crash in Dartmouth on Sunday morning when another driver crossed into their lane and struck their vehicle head-on, officials said.
Jeffrey Moniz and Diane Moniz, both 76 and from Westport, were rushed to a local hospital where they were pronounced dead, according to a statement from the Bristol County District Attorney’s office.
Police arrested the other driver, 63-year-old Philip Morris, at the scene, according to the statement. Morris is charged with two counts of motor vehicle homicide by negligent operation.
Police said the crash took place around 10:30 a.m. near 422 Old Westport Rd., when Morris crossed a double yellow line on the roadway and struck Moniz’ car.
Police continue to investigate the crash.
