Paul Kelly, 63, the former owner of Ma Kelly's, and his accountant, John Edward Parry, are on trial at Preston Crown Court.
They face charges of multi-million pound fraud, specifically tax evasion estimated at approximately £5 million, and perverting the course of justice through the submission of false income tax returns between 2013 and 2016.
The alleged fraud involves the Ma Kelly's chain, Paul Kelly personally, and unpaid taxes related to employees' income. The National Crime Agency brought the charges. Mr. Kelly resigned from his director role in November 2020.
His Honour Judge Philip Parry presides over the case at Preston Crown Court.

The alleged fraud relates to the Ma Kelly chain, Paul Kelly himself and money which should have been paid to the Government on behalf of Ma Kelly employees.
