A fight involving Atlético Nacional supporters in Porto Alegre, Brazil, left one fan dead and another critically injured. The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, April 11, 2025, in Cidade Baixa.
Alejandro Lopera Zuluaga, 27, died as a result of the altercation. The injured fan is undergoing surgery and is in serious condition.
Police believe the fight was solely between Atlético Nacional supporters; no Brazilians were initially involved. The altercation started near Rua João Alfredo, possibly after one fan tried to escape his aggressors by seeking shelter in nearby bars.
Initial reports suggest one fan stabbed another; the stabbing victim was subsequently attacked by other fans. Weapons like knives, stones, and pieces of wood were used. A ride-sharing driver witnessed the aftermath and transported the already deceased fan to a hospital.
A resident of Rua João Alfredo heard the commotion around 3:20 AM. From her balcony, she observed a significant part of the fight. She described seeing the injured fan, covered in blood, attempting to hide under a fence. The aggressors tried to reach him even in that place, and the resident called the authorities.
The investigation continues to determine the specific events and motivations leading to the fight.
