Starlink's Direct-to-Cell Service

Starlink, SpaceX's satellite internet constellation, is testing its 'Direct to Cell' service, enabling mobile phones to connect directly to the network without extra equipment. Initial trials focus on free text messaging and emergency calls, aiming for broader internet access by 2026. Compatible phones include recent models from Apple (iPhone 14+), Google (Pixel 9+), Motorola (2024 models onward), Samsung (several Galaxy models), and others that support the n71 600 MHz frequency band.

Starlink Home and Mobile Internet

For home use, Starlink offers residential plans with a motorized antenna and router, starting at €29 monthly, and a roaming plan for mobile use, starting at €40 monthly for 50 GB of data. The service is not yet equivalent to traditional fiber optics, as performance is susceptible to weather conditions and satellite capacity limits.

Expansion and Availability

Starlink continues to expand its network, currently with approximately 7,000 satellites in low Earth orbit. The service is available in many areas worldwide, providing high-speed internet access to previously underserved regions. Check Starlink's official website to determine availability in specific locations.
