The Andalusian government has officially allocated six plots of land in Málaga TechPark to the Spanish company for Technological Transformation (SETT) for the construction of a microchip design and manufacturing center by IMEC. The land, totaling over 15,000 square meters and valued at more than €9.18 million, was granted free of charge as part of an agreement between the Junta de AndalucĂa and SETT.
This land allocation follows previous agreements between the Spanish government, the Andalusian government, and Málaga City Council. The project's basic design was awarded to Drees & Sommer in June 2025, and IMEC has already started hiring staff for its Málaga laboratory. The €615 million project is co-funded by the Spanish government (€500 million, including EU funds) and the Andalusian government.
The project is deemed strategic for Spanish and European technological sovereignty. IMEC is a global leader in nanoelectronics and digital technologies research and development. The land concession will remain valid for 75 years, or until the Junta de AndalucĂa transfers full ownership and SETT completes construction to a future managing entity (consortium, foundation, etc.).
