Project Revival

A stalled sports center project in Málaga, Spain, initially conceived 20 years ago, is being revived. The project, located opposite the City of Justice, has faced numerous delays and financial difficulties.

Past Challenges

The project, originally undertaken by Udisa, encountered funding issues in 2014, leading to bankruptcy. Comonsa Sur later acquired the rights but failed to secure the necessary permits due to concerns over financial solvency.

New Ownership

The Málaga City Council has now authorized the transfer of rights to Javier Sancho, an entrepreneur known for his work with sports facilities. Sancho plans to build the center under his 'Ágora Meeting Sport Place' brand.

Project Scope

The original plans included:

  • Gymnasium
  • Spa
  • Indoor swimming pool
  • Parking (up to 1400 spaces)
  • 15 paddle tennis courts
  • 11 football pitches
  • Cafeteria
  • Potential for commercial area with medical facilities and restaurants (future phase)

While details of Sancho's specific plans remain undisclosed, the project signifies a significant step toward revitalizing a long-delayed development in Málaga.
