Mediation between the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) and DAZN regarding Ligue 1 broadcasting rights is set to conclude on April 15th. DAZN claims €573 million from the LFP for breach of contract and misrepresentation.
Two scenarios have been proposed by the LFP: a premature end to the partnership with DAZN, resulting in compensation to the LFP; and a two-year extension with a slight reduction in rights fees. DAZN has put forward two options: a short-term agreement ending the partnership at the end of the season, and a long-term plan involving a revised contract with a significant variable component.
DAZN is also considering acquiring the rights to the remaining match currently held by beIN Sports, which would allow them to offer a complete Ligue 1 package.
Neither party is willing to accept the other’s proposals, leading to a potential legal battle. If DAZN does not pay the remaining instalments, the LFP could claim financial guarantees from DAZN’s parent company, Access Industries. DAZN might also raise claims based on alleged mistreatment, unauthorized piracy, and denigration. The LFP is to meet on April 15th, leaving little time for a resolution.
