Lawrence High School's softball team suffered an 8-7 defeat against Olathe Northwest, the defending 6A champions. Despite a strong late-game rally, they fell short.
The game saw a back-and-forth battle. Olathe Northwest took an early lead, extending it in the fourth inning. Lawrence responded with an RBI double and single, but Olathe Northwest added three more runs. A late home run by Lawrence's Harper Dye sparked a rally, bringing them within one run. However, Olathe Northwest's pitcher secured the win with three strikeouts in the seventh.
Lawrence will play Washburn Rural and Spring Hill later in the week.
