Lawrence High School's softball team lost to Olathe West by a score of 13-0. The defeat stemmed from significant early defensive struggles that allowed Olathe West to score eight runs in the first inning alone. Lawrence's offense also struggled, with limited success in reaching base and scoring runs.
Coach Mike Byrn noted the team's slow start and the impact of not capitalizing on opportunities to get early outs. Despite the significant loss, Byrn highlighted the team's positive attitude and the leadership of the seniors who kept team spirits up throughout the game.
Harper Dye's performance at the plate was a highlight for Lawrence, with two hits against a strong opposing pitcher. Byrn also noted the team's improved batting approach throughout the season as a positive point.
Lawrence is scheduled to play Blue Valley West on the road on Wednesday and Free State on Thursday.
