Komatsu and Dimaag's Mobile Megawatt Charging System

Komatsu and Dimaag, a Silicon Valley-based company, have jointly developed a mobile megawatt charging system (MWCS) for off-road electric construction and mining equipment. This remote-controllable charger offers fast DC charging capabilities up to 1 megawatt, with the potential for up to 6 megawatts using a modular design.

Key Features and Specifications

  • Off-road capabilities: 4WD, four-wheel steer, and torque vectoring for enhanced maneuverability and traction.
  • Electric and Remote-Controlled: Operates electrically and can be controlled remotely, with autonomous control as an option.
  • High-Power Charging: Delivers up to 1 megawatt of charging power via an MCS Connector (1,500 amps, 1,000 volts).
  • Energy Storage: Equipped with a 295-kWh battery pack.
  • Compact Design: Features a compact, high-efficiency DC-DC converter with advanced thermal management.
  • Vehicle-to-Vehicle Charging: Can charge equipment directly on-site.

The MWCS was first showcased at Bauma 2023 in Germany. Dimaag and Komatsu highlight the system's potential for significant cost savings compared to diesel-powered equivalents while contributing to carbon neutrality goals.

Market Availability

The MWCS is slated for eventual release in the U.S., with market timing managed by Komatsu. This collaboration underscores the commitment of both companies towards the electrification of the construction industry.
