The Prienavera water park in Prien am Chiemsee, Germany, is implementing a new safety system utilizing AI-powered cameras and smartwatches for lifeguards. This system aims to enhance the safety of bathers by detecting potential drowning incidents and alerting lifeguards in real-time.
The system consists of 14 cameras strategically placed around the park's pools, eliminating blind spots. These cameras don't record faces but instead analyze movement patterns in the water. Sophisticated algorithms detect atypical movements indicative of drowning, even in cases where victims aren't actively struggling, and instantly alert lifeguards via their smartwatches. The system is capable of monitoring hundreds of people simultaneously.
This technology is intended to address the growing shortage of lifeguards and assist existing staff in effectively monitoring a large number of bathers. The system can detect not only potential drownings but also overcrowding.
The cost of the Lynxight system is approximately €90,000. Despite the price, the Prien town council unanimously approved the purchase, viewing it as a worthwhile investment to save lives.
