Following Fernando Gago's departure from Boca Juniors, Juan Román Riquelme has identified Gustavo Quinteros as the leading candidate to take over the coaching position. Quinteros, currently without a club, has previously been considered for the role but was unavailable due to his commitment to Vélez Sarsfield. Now, with Quinteros's recent departure from Gremio, the path is clear.
Riquelme's interest in Quinteros dates back to before Gago's appointment. While there's been no formal offer yet, soundings have been made, and Quinteros has indicated openness to the possibility. His prior comments hinted at a willingness to consider an offer from Boca, should one arise.
Another potential candidate is Gerardo Martino. However, Martino previously declined an offer from Riquelme to coach Boca before taking the Inter Miami job.
In the interim, before a final decision is made regarding the new coach, Mariano Herrón is expected to lead the team in the upcoming match against Tigre.
