Google's Home app received a significant update, introducing several noteworthy features. A standout is the addition of picture-in-picture support for Nest Cams on Google TV devices, allowing users to view camera feeds directly on their screens. This is currently in public preview.
Gemini, Google's AI, plays a prominent role, enhancing smart home controls. Users can now broadcast their voice via connected speakers and search camera clip history using text queries within the Gemini app. This expands Gemini's capabilities beyond the Google Assistant.
The update simplifies navigation through recorded camera footage by allowing users to quickly jump forward and backward in second intervals using double-taps. Additionally, Home app automations have been streamlined, allowing more specific configurations and incorporating presence sensing via phone location and Soli sensors.
The Home app now integrates Nest Protect smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, providing users with direct access to safety alerts and monitoring capabilities. Support for third-party Matter-enabled smart locks has also been expanded, offering more configurability.
Users can now personalize the Home app by adding various tiles to their favorites, such as indoor temperature dashboards, Wi-Fi actions, and master light switches. Favorites can also be set for multiple devices such as smartwatches and tablets. Furthermore, web-based controls are available for making adjustments to lights, temperature, and door locks.
Lastly, the Home Summary widget, showcased at I/O 2025, is now available for testing on a limited invite-only basis for Pixel phones.
