The La Cartuja stadium in Seville, Spain, underwent significant renovations costing €15 million, including the removal of the athletics track to create a better football stadium, increasing its capacity to 72,000. These improvements were partly funded by the Junta de Andalucía (€10 million) and aim to make it a potential venue for the 2030 World Cup.
The stadium will host the Copa del Rey final, expected to bring €60 million to the city. Preparations include installing new seating, lighting, and a FIFA-standard drainage system for the pitch. There have been discussions between Real Madrid and Barcelona regarding the preferred pitch height.
Despite the improvements, access to the stadium remains a significant concern, particularly from the south. Limited entrances under the Alamillo Bridge are expected to cause traffic congestion. Although some improvements are being made to public transport and roads, a chaotic arrival and departure for fans is feared, with FIFA monitoring the situation for the potential 2030 World Cup bid.
