The Costa Rican Football Federation (Fedefútbol) revoked the participation license of Asociación Deportiva Guanacasteca (ADG) for failing to report changes in club administration, as per articles 18 and 73 of the Federation's Licensing Regulations. ADG has three days to appeal the decision.
ADG president Jorge Arias signed a certification in September 2024, agreeing to sell 55% of a new company controlling the team to Mexican investors Leonardo Cova Escorsa and Jorge García Correa for $1 million. Cova, initially announced as ADG's general manager, denied being an investor, claiming only minor personal expenses.
The proposed share structure was 55% for Cova and García, 35% for ADG, and 10% for DMV Events.
DMV Events' constitution links its secretary, Luis Diego Jiménez, to Santos de Guápiles. Ronald Freer, DMV's president and Santos' general manager, denied the deal's validity, claiming it was an unfulfilled proposal.
While Freer denied the deal, photographs show him, Arias, Cova, and García signing what a source claims was the sale contract. The situation remains contentious, with conflicting statements from involved parties.
