DAZN, facing legal action from the French Professional Football League (LFP) over alleged contract breaches, is nearing a potential exit from its Ligue 1 broadcasting agreement at the season's end. Negotiations are underway, with DAZN reportedly offering a reduced compensation of €100 million.
The LFP is considering two main options: accepting DAZN's €100 million and seeking a new partner, or creating its own 100% Ligue 1 channel with DAZN covering production costs, eliminating the compensation. beIN Sports has expressed willingness to relinquish its Saturday afternoon match to facilitate this new channel.
This scenario could rekindle a previous proposal by beIN Sports to create a dedicated Ligue 1 channel for the LFP. This could also facilitate discussions with Canal+, a major sports distributor in France and beIN Sports's partner.
The LFP is aiming for a smooth transition. While DAZN's next payment is due, flexibility exists to finalize the agreement before the scheduled payment to clubs on May 16th.
