Photos: Bay Area wakes up to blankets of snow – Times Herald Online
Falling snow and trees and flooding closed major roads in the Santa Cruz Mountains early Friday as the Bay Area bore through a rare winter storm that dumped several inches of snow at elevations below 1,000 feet across Northern California.
According to a report by this news organization, “A winter storm warning remained in effect throughout the region for all elevations above 1,500 feet, where significant amounts of snow were expected to accumulate. The warning was in effect until 11 a.m. Friday.
“A freeze warning remained in effect for the region until 9 a.m. Saturday.
“The weather service also warned that tornadoes were possible later Friday morning in areas of the region, including Monterey and Santa Cruz counties. The NWS reported lightning, thunderstorms and strong winds in Marin County on Thursday night.”
