The Tihange 1 nuclear reactor unexpectedly shut down on Thursday, according to its operator Engie.
The shutdown was caused by the detection of "abnormal chemical parameters" in the cooling water of the non-nuclear part of the reactor, explained spokesperson Nele Scheerlinck.
Engie hopes to restart the reactor on Friday. It is possible that the plant could return to full power in the evening.
