An MBTA commuter rail train ran into a tractor-trailer and pushed it down the track in Canton on Wednesday, injuring a train passenger and knocking out power lines, officials said.

The crash happened about 1:40 p.m. at a railroad crossing on Pine Street, police said. The truck was traveling from Canton to Stoughton and somehow became stuck on the tracks.

The truck driver was able to escape before impact and was not injured. The passenger suffered a minor injury, police said.

Some power lines near the crossing were knocked down, police said.

Images posted online by police showed a heavily damaged truck sitting perpendicular to the train. It appeared the train had pushed the truck down the track, away from the crossing where it appeared the gates were at least partially drawn down.

Keolis, the company that operates the commuter rail, said in a statement that the “crossing gates and lights were operating as intended.”
