A significant power outage impacted millions across Spain and Portugal, and parts of France on Monday. The outage caused widespread disruption, including darkened traffic lights, stalled trains, and long lines at ATMs and grocery stores due to credit card reader malfunctions.
By Tuesday morning, power was mostly restored. Spain's national power company reported that nearly all power demand in Peninsular Spain was met by 6 a.m. Portugal's electricity and gas supplier, REN, also confirmed full restoration to its substations. Power was similarly restored in the affected areas of France.
The cause of the outage remains under investigation.
