The first district conference of the Karnataka Rajya Veerashaiva-Lingayat Noukarara Kshemabhivruddhi Sangha was held here on Sunday. Gangadhar Swami of Vishwaradhya Samsthan of Abbetumkur inaugurated the programme.

Veerabasantareddy Mudnal, former legislator, advised members of sangha and the Veerashaiva- Lingayat community to join hands to strengthen the community and help poor students get education and jobs.

“Everybody think that the community is politically and financially strong. But, a majority of its members are still struggling to meet their family needs and the expenditure for their children’s education,” Mr. Mudnal said.

Esha Padashteey performed Bharatanatyam. Meritorious students and retired employees from the community were felicitated.

Shashikanta Kashetty, district president of the sangha, sought a site to construct a building for the sangha in Yadgir.

Shashidharreddy Hosalli, president, Yadgir City Municipal Council; Channareddy Patil Tunnur, former MLA; and Srinivasreddy Kandkur, former Chairman of Command Area Development Authority, were present.
