Donald Trump's and Vladimir Putin's participation in the upcoming peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine in Turkey remains unconfirmed. Trump stated his attendance is uncertain, suggesting Putin's presence might depend on his participation. Putin's attendance is also unconfirmed, with the Kremlin delaying the announcement of its delegation.
Trump expressed frustration over the stalled peace talks and mentioned considering secondary sanctions against Moscow if Putin obstructs negotiations. He previously urged Ukrainian President Zelensky to accept a negotiation offer without preconditions, unlike Zelensky's stance of attending only if Putin confirms his presence.
Zelensky expressed readiness for the meeting but conditioned his attendance on Putin's confirmation. A meeting between the leaders would be their first since December 2019, and direct negotiations between Ukrainian and Russian representatives haven't occurred since March 2022 in Istanbul.
