Day two of search and rescue efforts are underway in Ohio following a train verse pedestrian collision that left two women dead, an infant injured and 5-year-old child missing, officials told USA TODAY.
The incident took place on May 18 in Fremont, a city along the shore of Lake Erie shore in the north central part of the state.
At the scene, Fremont Mayor Danny Sanchez told reporters the collision occured on a railroad bridge and said crews were searching the Sandusky River for the missing child.
Sandusky County Sheriff Chris Hilton said two women died, an infant pulled from the river was transferred to a hospital, and another child remained missing following the crash which took place about 7:30 p.m. local time.
The sheriff said the infant was pulled from the water by a witness, the Fremont News Messenger, part of the USA TODAY Network reported.
The person who rescued the infant performed CPR, Hilton said, and first-responders transported the baby to a hospital in Toledo.
“We are conducting a search for a 5-year-old juvenile in the water,” Hilton said, adding rescue crews were scouring the river by boat and air.

Officials have not released the victims' identities but Sanchez said two women, ages 38 and 58 − believed to be mother and daughter − were killed, according to FOX8-TV reported
Sanchez said the family was in the city from Fort Wayne, Indiana on a fishing trip, according to the outlet, and had been walking on the bridge used solely for trains.
