The investigation into the golf cart incident that took the life of John Elway’s close friend two weeks ago is nearing its conclusion.

The Denver Gazette's news partners, 9NEWS, spoke Friday to Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco after he had released a statement saying the coroner’s bureau found Jeff Sperbeck’s cause of death to be “blunt force trauma,’’ the manner of the death was “an accident” and the cause of the accident was the “passenger fell from the golf cart.”

The video that investigators have into evidence shows there was no untoward movement with the cart or balance issues with Sperbeck, Bianco said.

“I can tell you John was not drunk,’’ Bianco said. “I listened to the entire 911 call. He was very articulate. He was very responsive. He was not slurring his words. He was not hesitating in his response with the dispatcher. It was a normal urgent conversation.”
