COLUMBUS—May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and AdventHealth Polk’s Senior Life Solutions is raising awareness about mental health by hosting an open house. This event will take place at 65 Palmer Jervey Drive, Suite A, in Columbus, on Thursday, May 29, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

According to Mental Health America, the organization initiated Mental Health Month, previously known as Mental Health Week, in 1949 to educate Americans about mental health and mental illness. Each year, organizations and programs across the country come together to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health, help improve access to care, educate communities on signs and symptoms, and highlight the progress being made in mental health.

“Mental Health Awareness Month is such a great opportunity to remind people that their mental health matters,” says AdventHealth Polk’s Senior Life Solutions staff member Kandra Cunningham, RN. “Mental health is no different than physical health, and through education and starting conversations, we are helping to break down the stigma.”

Guests will have the opportunity to learn more about mental health, engage in interactive games, and connect with others in the community.

AdventHealth Polk’s Senior Life Solutions is an outpatient program designed to meet the unique needs of older adults experiencing depression and/or anxiety related to life changes that are often associated with aging or a chronic diagnosis. If you or someone you know is struggling with a decline in their mental health, the program is available to help. The team works to identify and address the emotional needs of individuals in our community and provide them with support.
