Seattle-King County Public Health recently recognized Snoqualmie/North Bend Police Department Officer Austin Gutwein for saving the life of a North Bend man in January 2021.

Officer Gutwein was first on the scene, responding to a call reporting a collapsed man in a business on E. North Bend Way. Upon arrival, the officer used an AED to restart the man’s heart and continued chest compressions until Eastside Fire & Rescue arrived a short time later.

Snoqualmie Police Chief Perry Phipps said Officer Gutwein is very humble. The chief said he did not even learn about the incident until recently being notified by Seattle-King County Public Health that they wished to recognize Officer Gutwein for his life-saving actions.

This week, Officer Gutwein was able to finally meet the 60-year-old man whose life he helped save in North Bend.

Chief Phipps commented: “Officer Gutwein’s training and quick actions helped this man survive until our Eastside Fire & Rescue partners arrived on the scene. We are honored to have him recognized by Seattle-King County Public Health.”
