Amalric details his relationship with Canadian soprano and conductor Barbara Hannigan, describing their meeting as a 'wonderful accident of life'. "Lorsqu'on est venu me proposer de tourner ce film sur Barbara, c’était comme un cadeau empoisonné... Comment tomber amoureux de ce genre qu’est le biopic? Être habité par le film? Jeanne qui joue le personnage d’une actrice qui doit jouer Barbara, ça n’a rien d’original, mais ça me permettait d’ouvrir tous les plaisirs.
Passer par un miroitement sans être dans la reconstitution scolaire et aussi mettre en valeur la musique. En ce moment je voyage pas mal pour le présenter à l’étranger. Et le film fonctionne! Je viens encore de recevoir un prix de la mise en scène à Séville", explique-t-il, à l'orée de le présenter au public du festival à Montauroux.
Mais une autre Barbara, Hannigan celle-lĂ , le fascine. La romance avec la soprano et chef d'orchestre canadienne remonte Ă 2015...
"Ce sont les accidents merveilleux de la vie... Il y a deux ans, l’Opéra de Paris a donné des cartes blanches pour tourner des petits films destinés à leur site internet. J’ai choisi la thématique de la voix. D’où ça vient la voix ? J’avais beaucoup de fantasmes autour de la question.
Alors autant explorer cela à travers un corps féminin. On m’a suggéré Barbara Hannigan... Et au final on est tombé amoureux en faisant le film...", confie-t-il dans un sourire.
