The Indian Armed Forces are undergoing several high-level leadership transitions. Air Marshal Narmadeshwar Tiwari will succeed Air Marshal SP Dharkar as the new Vice Chief of the Indian Air Force on May 1st, 2024. Air Marshal Dharkar is retiring after over 40 years of service. Air Marshal Tiwari currently commands the South Western Air Command.
Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit will take over as the new Chief of Integrated Defence Staff to the Chairman Chiefs of Staff Committee (CISC), replacing Lt Gen JP Matthew, who is retiring on April 30th. Air Marshal Dixit, a Mirage 2000 pilot, currently heads the Central Air Command.
The Indian Army's Northern Command will have a new chief, Lt Gen Prateek Sharma, replacing Lt Gen MV Suchendra Kumar who is retiring on April 30th. Lt Gen Sharma currently serves as the Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Strategy) and has a background in Military Operations.
Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit has been approved to take over as the new CISC in place of Lt Gen JP Matthew, who is superannuating on April 30.
Lt Gen Sharma is presently the Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Strategy) in the Army Headquarters and has also served as Director General Military Operations.
The officer would be replacing the incumbent Lt Gen MV Suchendra Kumar who is superannuating on April 30.
Lt Gen Sharma had recently travelled with Army Chief Gen Upendra Dwivedi on Friday to Srinagar post Pahalgam attack.
