A major explosion occurred at the Shandong Youdao Chemical plant in Gaomi, China, on May 27, 2025. At least five people died, six are missing, and 19 were injured.
The cause of the explosion remains unknown. Investigations are underway.
The blast caused substantial damage, including broken windows in nearby buildings. A large plume of smoke was visible. One worker described a strong gust of wind that damaged their factory.
Emergency response teams deployed 55 vehicles and 232 personnel to the scene. The Ministry of Emergency Management also sent additional reinforcements.
Shandong Youdao Chemical, established in 2019, is part of the Himile Group and employs over 300 people. The Himile Group's stock prices dropped following the incident.
