An officer was dispatched March 21 to 203 North Sycamore in reference to loose pitbulls.

Upon arrival, a resident told the officer there have been several pitbulls coming into his yard, acting extremely aggressive toward him and his wife.

He stated the dog owners have repeatedly been told to keep the animals out of their yard, but they ignore the requests.

The officer spoke with one of the owners, who stated she would put the dogs inside her fence. The report noted that while the officer was speaking with her he saw one loose pitbull and several others were in their yard.

The woman admitted she and a male subject own all of the animals.

Later, on March 26 at approximately 1900 hours the same officer was dispatched to 805 East Locust (directly behind 205 Sycamore). He spoke with two other neighbors who complained that for the past several months they have had several dogs come into their yard and on their porch, acting very aggressive.

Both neighbors stated they feel the animals are a threat to their safety.

Attempts to make contact with the dog owners on the second complaint had been unsuccessful at the time of the report; however, the report will be updated once they are located.

The complaint is being sent to the prosecutor for review.

An officer was dispatched March 24 to a residence in the area of Borth and Lafayette Streets to check on a report of a door left standing open at a vacant residence.

Upon arrival the officer found the carport door that leads into the kitchen standing open; however, a search in each room determined there was no one at the residence.

It did not appear that anyone had removed any property from the premises, the report said.

The officer locked the carport door and closed it, then cleared.

An officer was dispatched March 24 to Walnut Street by Munch N Pump in reference to a truck that was in the ditch. The vehicle did not have a valid plate.

EMS had arrived at the scene and spoken with the driver, Christopher James Yonkers, 57, of Doniphan. Yonkers refused any treatment and stated that he was fine.

As the officer spoke to Yonkers he reportedly could smell an odor of alcohol coming from him. The officer stated he asked Yonkers why his truck didn’t have a plate on it. Yonkers stated that he‘d just bought the truck, and hadn’t registered it yet.

The officer then asked Yonkers if he’d had anything to drink and Yonkers admitted he’d consumed alcohol that evening and just left his home to come to the store. Yonkers then asked if the officer could give him a jump, as his battery had died.

The officer stated, “No. But we’ll deal with that in a minute.”

Yonkers said he would like to call a tow truck.

Due to the smell of alcohol, the officer asked if Yonkers would submit to a breath test, to which he agreed.

Yonkers called a tow truck and then provided a breath sample which showed a reading of .268.

Once the tow truck arrived, Yonkers was arrested for driving while intoxicated and transported to the Ripley County Detention Center where he again tested with a BAC of .237. He was cited for DWI and released.

________

An officer was dispatched March 24 to Grand Avenue for a civil standby.

He spoke with two male subjects, one of whom stated he wanted the other man to leave for the night, and the other one stated he had called for a ride, that would be there shortly.

The officer waited until the subject was picked up then cleared.

________

An officer received a walk-in complaint March 26 in reference to possible child neglect at the Early Head Start building.

A representative from child protective services stated that she had received a hotline call concerning a baby that had been left unattended, choked and had to be given CPR.

The incident was investigated by Doniphan Police and social services with full cooperation from staff at the facility. Video surveillance footage at the head start was free of any such incident. As of now the report is considered to be unfounded.
