An FDNY ambulance driver has been placed on modified duty for running into a Bronx road rage victim lying unconscious in the street — then leaving the scene without helping him, the Daily News has learned.

The chain of events began when the 37-year-old victim rear-ended a black SUV near E. 149th St. and Brook Ave. in Mott Haven, cops said. An enraged man in the SUV got out and confronted the victim, punching him in the head until he lost consciousness about 1 a.m. Monday.

After his attacker fled in the SUV with two other men, an ambulance driver accidentally struck the driver in the roadway and left without rendering aid, according to police sources.

The EMS crew was responding to a different emergency and the driver’s partner was treating a victim for a broken bone in the back of the ambulance when the crash occurred, an FDNY official said.

“The entire incident is under review,” FDNY spokeswoman Amanda Farinacci told The News.

The ambulance driver has been placed on modified duty as the FDNY investigates whether the driver realized they struck someone.

A second EMS crew and police arrived minutes later and the victim was taken to Lincoln Hospital in critical condition.

The victim’s condition has since improved and he is expected to survive, police sources said.
