BMW is issuing a recall for over 720,000 vehicles due to a potential fire hazard related to the water pump's electrical connector. The recall affects several models, including the X1, X3, and X5.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the water pumps in the affected vehicles have insufficient sealing, allowing fluid ingress at the electrical connector. This can lead to short circuits and potentially fires.
BMW will inspect and replace water pumps and connectors as needed. They will also install a shield to prevent fluid from reaching the pump. Owners will receive notification in October and can have the repairs performed for free at authorized BMW centers.
