A 38-year-old Huntington Beach man who was arrested after allegedly threatening to shoot police while barricading himself in a garage rafter in April had prior convictions for burglary, drug possession and evading arrest in a vehicle, according to Orange County Superior Court files.

The suspect, Kevin Perry, pleaded not guilty Wednesday to resisting arrest of an executive officer, which includes threatening force to prevent the person from doing his or her job, and resisting arrest of a peace officer, according to the district attorney’s office. A pretrial hearing is set for May 23.

Police served a warrant on April 30 for Perry, who was wanted on burglary and narcotics charges and a parole violation, according to Huntington Beach police.

Perry had previously been convicted of several crimes. In 2012, he was convicted of possession of a controlled substance and paraphernalia and sentenced to 90 days in jail.

Perry was also convicted of driving under the influence and being in possession of concentrated cannabis in 2011. He was sentenced to 60 days in jail and three years probation and told to attend a Mothers Against Drunk Driving Victim’s Impact panel and spend three months in an alcohol program.

Additionally, Perry pleaded guilty in 1997 to evading police in a vehicle and was sentenced to 120 days in jail.
