Axel Tuanzebe sues Man United for alleged medical negligence

Axel Tuanzebe has brought a legal case against his former club Manchester United for alleged medical negligence two years after leaving the club.

The defender, who signed for Burnley as a free agent two weeks ago after his contract expired with Ipswich Town, submitted the case to the High Court late last week.

At this stage it is unclear exactly what the claim relates to. Manchester United declined to comment when contacted.

Tuanzebe joined United aged eight and captained the club at every level making 37 appearances between 2017 and 2023. His time at United was plagued by injuries and after coming back from a successful loan spell at Aston Villa he was handed starts in big games by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but hamstring and hip injuries brought an end to his hopes in the 2019-20 campaign.

After leaving United in 2023, following various different loan spells, he became an influential signing for Ipswich and was key to their promotion to the top flight, making 45 appearances during the 2023-24 campaign. The 27-year-old made 22 top-flight appearances last season and decided to remain in the Premier League with newly promoted Burnley rather than sign a new deal with Ipswich. He was confirmed as their third signing of the summer earlier this month.Speaking about his transfer, he said: β€œIt became a very simple decision after speaking to the manager and the message was very clear, precise and straight to the point. It’s a new chapter for me, back in the vicinity of Manchester and home and I’m ready to continue my journey now at Burnley.”
