The article begins by discussing Bali's popularity, particularly among Australians in Perth, noting its once significantly lower cost compared to Australian cities. While beachfront five-star hotels previously offered rates as low as £50 per night, prices have now increased to around £80.

Thailand

The article then shifts focus to Thailand, specifically Phuket. It features examples like Splash Beach Resort, offering deluxe twin rooms with breakfast and water park access for £58 per night, and Amora Beach Resort and Cassia Phuket, both providing luxurious options with breakfast included at comparable prices.

That is clear to me, as someone who’s travelled to Bali a dozen times, and done at least 15 trips to each of Thailand and Vietnam.

I was born and raised in Perth, where Bali is so popular it’s almost like a satellite suburb of this city. That’s partly because Bali’s closer to us than Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane, but even more so because it was once so cheap that Perth people could do a 10-day holiday in Bali for the price of a three-day trip to those Aussie cities.

A decade ago, it was possible to pay as little as £50 per night in Bali for a beachfront five-star hotel, including buffet breakfast for two people. Now, few such deals are available for less than £80.

Thailand

Compare that to Phuket, where Splash Beach Resort, a luxury property fronting Mai Khao Beach, charges just £58 per night for a deluxe twin room, including daily buffet breakfast for two people, and two adult tickets to the adjoining Splash Jungle water park. In Bali, it costs that same price (£58) just for two tickets to its Waterbom water park.

Over in Phuket’s upmarket Laguna neighbourhood, twin share rooms including buffet breakfast start from just £63 at Amora Beach Resort, which has a private beach, multiple pools and a kids club. Next door, at five-star Cassia Phuket, it’s only £62 for a one-bedroom suite with buffet breakfast for two people.
