Intel has agreed to sell a 51% stake in its programmable chip subsidiary, Altera, to Silver Lake, a private equity firm. The deal values Altera at approximately $8.75 billion, significantly less than the $16.7 billion Intel paid in 2015. Intel expects to receive around $4.46 billion from the sale.
This transaction represents a significant divestment for Intel, allowing them to recoup a portion of their initial investment in Altera. The reduced valuation reflects changes in the market since the 2015 acquisition.
